In California you have a lot of plans. One of the most original seemed to me to know the desert. Where, in addition to cacti, you have places as cool as this one that I am going to talk to you about now, Palm Springs.
You’ve probably heard of this place. Even before preparing your trip to the West Coast of the United States. It is one of the most popular places in California even though it is located in the desert itself. Frank Sinatra and other Hollywood actors made it fashionable by buying a mansion here. Today I am going to propose an excursion to Palm Springs.
You can do this trip from the city of Los Angeles, although in my case I did it from the desert itself. Specifically from Joshua Tree National Park. Although Mojave seemed incredible to me, I also wanted to do some excursions in the area, and Palm Springs is a place with a lot of interesting plans.
If you are packing your bags to go to the US, I think you are interested in taking a look at this article in which I give you advice on the documentation you need in the USA. I have another one about the change of currency to dollars. And the most important, in which I explain why you cannot travel to the United States without travel insurance.
Plans for an excursion in Palm Springs
If you are thinking of doing a day trip, I think you should focus your efforts on two routes: 1) Mount San Jacinto, to enjoy the Palm Springs cable car and 2) go shopping at the outlets.
One of the things that will surprise you the most about Palm Spring is that it is the capital of modernism in the United States. No. It has nothing to do with Gaudí and his constructions. This American art movement is different.
Although modernism in the USA was born at the same time, at the beginning of the 20th century, and in a similar way to what it does in Europe, it has a different life. In fact, its essence is to break away from the continent and give it a clearly North American touch, strengthening its culture and way of life until the 1950s and 1960s. Design and architecture show the new “modern” life of the social classes that are beginning to live in the suburbs and consume household appliances while rock and jazz records arrive at their homes, and books and movies that advance change.
Modernism Week is celebrated in Palm Spring. As you will see on a tour of the West Coast, this place is a paradise for lovers of fashion and design.
Palm Springs Cable Car
To climb Mount San Jacinto you have to do it by cable car, on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. They are four kilometers with the best views of the valley. It will take ten minutes each way. You will make your trip in a revolving gondola – according to them it is the largest in the world – with 360-degree views. Going up is a great experience, but going down was the most fun. During the descent, the song Sweet Caroline began to play and we had a great time singing it with the rest of the tourists who were in the cabin. It was really fun.
Shopping in Palm Springs, along the desert’s Rodeo Drive
The truth is that the cable car excursion to the Monte San Jacinto State Park will take you a long time, it will practically consume your entire day. It may take a lot of your energy and in some cases, finding a palm springs dispensary is a must.
That is why I told you before that it is a good idea to book a hotel and dedicate a couple of days to your excursion to Palm Springs.
There are many people who come to the Coachela Valley – perhaps this name is familiar to you because of the famous music festival that takes place here in the spring – following in the footsteps of celebrities such as Elvis Presley or Marilyn Monroe. Another of the great attractions of this place is golf; Palm Springs has more than 100 fields to practice this sport. But the great attraction of this place is its shopping space. The El Paseo area is known as the Rodeo Drive of the desert. In case you haven’t visited Los Angeles yet, Rodeo Drive is the place to visit if you want to see the best fashion and shopping stores in the Californian city.
