Angel investor and business mentor Mark Lyttleton came up with the concept of Percent For Good after 20 years working in the City of London. Having previously supported Payroll Giving schemes, he recognised that while they offer a simple means of charitable giving he had little time to research the causes he was giving to. From this kernel of an idea, Mr Lyttleton came up with an innovative new charitable giving concept.
Percent For Good provides donors with a pain-free way of making regular donations to causes they care about. Each charity selected by Percent For Good is carefully curated for its on-the-ground impact. Percent For Good’s Cause Portfolio concept is an innovation in the giving space that enables donations to be spread across various causes, widening the impact of individual gifts and enabling donors to support a variety of different causes within their chosen category.
Percent For Good’s five Cause Portfolios are:
- The Education Portfolio
- The Health & Wellbeing Portfolio
- The Cost-of-Living Crisis Portfolio
- The Social Mobility Portfolio
- The Nature & Environment Portfolio
Percent For Good’s Health & Wellbeing Portfolio comprises under-appreciated charities that are making a real difference in society. One example is Sport In Mind, an organisation that aims to transform mental health through free sport and physical activity sessions. To date, Sport In Mind has supported 31,000 people experiencing mental health problems, with 94% of people who participate in its free sport and physical activity programmes reporting an improvement in their wellbeing. Sport In Mind recently launched its Mum and Baby inpatient pilot, supporting mothers by encouraging them to engage in physical activity with their babies.
Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is another charity included in Percent For Good’s Health & Wellbeing Portfolio. A suicide prevention charity, CALM is on a mission to help prevent suicide in the UK by helping service users to tackle the root cause of their unhappiness. From money worries to loneliness, CALM helps people tackle an array of different issues, providing information, support and practical advice. The charity’s goal is to bring everyone together to unite against suicide, ensuring that no one feels like suicide is their only option. CALM supports people experiencing crises as well as their loved ones.
Percent For Good is also proud to support Re-engage, an organisation that provides life-enhancing social connections for older people at a time in their lives when their social circles are diminishing. The organisation increases awareness to help service users prevent scams and fraud. Re-engage also operates a phone service, connecting isolated older people with friendly volunteers to help stave off loneliness. Through its exercise groups, tea parties and other social activities, Re-engage encourages older people to enjoy the company of others, helping them to stay active and independent for longer.
