Snapchat has recently added the ability to add music in the videos you share with your friends and family. This timely update was made in light of President Trump’s bashing of TikTok and Instagram announcing its own TikTok-style feature.
English users should be able to see and access the feature, and those in Australia and New Zealand will be the first to try it out. The music selection will come from Warner Music Group, Merlin, Universal Music Group and others.
A Snapchat spokesperson says that it won’t have the same function as TikTok’s, and is a new way to share music with close friends. Swiping up on a video will reveal details about the song, and there will be a link that directs the user to their preferred streaming platform.
Snapchat is a bustling social media platform which attracts more than 90% of 13 to 24 year olds in the US, and 75% of 13 to 34 year olds. Based on public data, Snapchat has greater reach than TikTok and Twitter combined.
